The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer – This book was SO GOOD! Historical fiction at its finest, in my opinion. Set in Poland during WWII and in modern day America, we follow young Alina in Poland as her family struggles to survive the war and as her future she had planned with fiancé Tomasz falls apart.
In America we fall in love with Alice, a busy mom who traded her journalism degree and potential jobs for the stay-at-home-mom life as she raises her gifted daughter and her son who is non-verbal. In the midst of her daily busy-ness she is asked by her grandmother to travel to Poland to find a list of places and names and in the process unravel the family’s mysterious past.
You don’t have to enjoy historical fiction to love this book because there’s a good balance of history with its struggles and present day with its challenges. I HIGHLY recommend it! I’m sure it will top my favorites list at the end of the year!
